Geoffrey R. Hornby Principal, Grace & Competra

In Geoffrey's long career in the international oil and shipping industries, it was important to him that his work would improve peoples' lives and that he could bring together among people from different cultures.

He and his late wife, Kathleen, shared life-long interests in literature, education, and the arts, and became patrons to a number of artists. They resonated strongly with Karin delaPena's creative activities and expression--particularly with how (through her work as Artistic Director of Speaking of Stories) she combines programs in literary and performing arts with education and social outreach. To further these endeavors, Geoffrey has joined in partnership with Karin in Grace & Competra.

Geoffrey also joined the Board of Directors of Speaking of Stories, is President of the Board, is a donor and volunteers much time to the development of its causes.

Geoffrey and Karin delaPena's business relationship in Grace & Competra is a strong partnership based on their shared beliefs, and the complementary skills and talents each brings to the table. This partnership, and their work together at Speaking of Stories, create a consuming and stimulating environment.

Grace & Competra's first major project, under their Panto Productions banner, was Jack and the Beanstalk - the Panto! in 1999. It was followed in 2000 by Goldilocks, 3 Bears… and then some! and soon the third of what Panto Productions is making an annual family event in Santa Barbara Puss in Boots, the Panto! opening on December 26, 2001. In addition, Grace & Competra is planning other theatrical ventures.
